Kathmandu. The bodies concerned are gearing up to fix the number of temporary police personnel for the election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 4.
The bodies concerned have started preparations after the need was seen to increase the number of temporary police personnel projected under the Integrated Election Security Plan as the number of new voters has increased in comparison to the previous forecast.
Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ananda Kafle, said that the Nepal Police would start the recruitment process for temporary police in course of the implementation of the election security plan. He added that the number of temporary police could be increased by assessing the number of new voters.
Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police and Additional Inspector General of Police, Abinarayan Kafle, said that the recruitment process for temporary police will start soon through the District Security Committee on the basis of security sensitivity after the Election Commission finalizes the polling center. He added that the human resources would be clear on the basis of additional polling centres as the criteria for integrated security plan and temporary police selection have reached the province and district levels.
The temporary police who are deployed for a total of 40 days during the election will get basic salary, clothes, transportation allowances and other facilities equal to that of a police constable. Nepal Police is preparing to deploy more than 71,000 police personnel for the election, said Kafle.
The Central Security Committee has prepared a three-phase security plan — before, during the election period and after the election. President Bhandari has already approved the mobilization of the Nepal Army for the elections on Thursday on the recommendation of the federal government. The Nepal Police will be in the first circle, the Armed Police Force in the second and the Nepal Army in the third.
A total of 344,914 new voters have been added through the biometrics system and 492,180 through the national identity card in the voter list collection that concluded on November 21. The total number of voters who have completed 18 years of age has reached 1,81,68,023 with the registration of new voters in the electoral rolls.
The EC will make public the final voters’ list after giving time to correct the errors in the details or give time to lodge a complaint. There were 179,88,570 voters in the elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies in 2079 BS. At that time, there were 22,227 polling stations and 141 temporary polling stations in 10,892 polling stations.
