Kathmandu. On the occasion of Safer Internet Day 2082, Ncell Foundation and NASA Securities announced the launch of the nationwide Safer Internet Together (SIT) initiative.
The campaign aims to reach schools across the country and educate students on various aspects of cybersecurity, data privacy and digital security. It is expected to benefit more than 50,000 students, teachers and community members.
The program will be conducted in government, community and private schools in Bagmati, Gandaki and Madhes provinces targeting students from grade 3 to 12. A handbook on internet safety has also been prepared under the program.
The books will be distributed to the participating boys and girls of the respective schools after the program session. After the successful implementation in the first phase, the campaign will be extended to other provinces in the next fiscal year.
The theme for this year’s Safer Internet Day is Smart Tech, Safe Choices: Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI.
Ncell and NASA Securities jointly launched the program in Nepal were formally announced during an SIT session held at Rastriya Secondary School, Pokhara. During the program, Michael Foley, CEO of Ncell, shared the students’ understanding on digital security and the responsible use of AI in today’s digital age.
The SIT program aligns with Ncell Foundation’s commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem in Nepal.
“I’m also a father, so as a parent, the protection of personal data is very important to me. In today’s time, the Internet plays an important role in our daily lives. As technology becomes an integral part of our lives, it is even more important to understand and be prepared for the risks associated with it. Through the SIT program, we aim to equip students and young people with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe, responsible, and confident in the digital world. I’m optimistic that this program will provide the new generation with the guidance and tools they need to make the most of digital opportunities while staying safe,” said Michael Foley, CEO of Ncell.
This collaboration will contribute to building digital literacy, resilience, and trust in the broader digital ecosystem, establishing both organizations as responsible digital accelerators and proactively addressing emerging risks.
“As digital platforms increasingly influence the way young people learn, interact or react and make decisions, ensuring their online safety is a shared responsibility. We believe that digital literacy and cyber awareness are as important as financial literacy in today’s world. Through the SIT campaign conducted in collaboration with the Ensley Foundation, we aim to equip students with the practical knowledge to use technology responsibly, preserve their digital footprint, and navigate the digital ecosystem safely. The event reflects our long-term commitment towards responsible digital empowerment and community development across Nepal,” said Madan Poudyal, Managing Director of NASA Securities.
So far, SIT sessions have been conducted in nine schools: Shree Rastriya Secondary School, Shree Amar Singh Secondary School, Little Step Secondary School, Bhaskar Memorial School, St. Mary’s School and Rainbow Academic Homes Secondary School in Kaski. Similarly, SIT sessions have been conducted at St. Mary’s School in Lalitpur, Bani Vilas High School in Lalitpur and Adarsh High School in Bhaktapur. Asterisk Technology has partnered as the implementation partner of the program.
