Vulnerable settlements on the banks of rivers in Balkhu and Banshighat areas to be cleared

. KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal has launched a special task at Balkhu and Banshighat areas today as part of the campaign to remove vulnerable settlements along the banks of the Bagmati and its tributaries.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the District Administration Office, Kathmandu has forwarded this task in coordination with the concerned bodies.TAG_OPEN_div_19

The campaign aims to remove a total of 686 structures today.TAG_OPEN_div_17 Likewise, 486 huts in Balkhu area and 200 structures in Banshighat area have been evacuated using dozers.

The government has given top priority to this step to protect the lives and property of the citizens by preventing huge loss of life and property due to floods and inundation during the rainy season.TAG_OPEN_div_15

Regarding the next plan, the government has clarified that it will continue the removal of structures in Shankhamul and other upstream areas gradually.TAG_OPEN_div_13

The government has already made it clear that the process of vacating the land will be forwarded only after a concrete blueprint is prepared for their real identity and safe management of the landless squatters.TAG_OPEN_div_11
