Kathmandu. The data hub of 72 trading member companies related to the trading system of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has been attacked by a cyber attack after the problem could not be resolved even after about 30 hours.

The data hub has been facing a technical problem since 5:30 am on September 19 and efforts are being made to resolve it, but the problem has not been resolved yet.

According to Data Hub, there has been a ransomware (cyber) attack on the TMS hosted infrastructure of broker companies. Before that attack, i.e., till 4 am on September 20, the backup has been secured and isolated.

The ransomware has not yet been brought back online, as it is possible that the ransomware may have affected or spread to other connected networks and systems.

As TMS is connected to Nepse’s infrastructure and other related systems, it will take some time to conduct forensic analysis and implement necessary corrective and safety measures before bringing the system back online.

According to the information provided by Waico’s Data Hub, the ransomware incident has affected a number of systems and services including TMS, CDSC related systems, payment gateways and other interrelated services.
