Kaski. An alert has been taken in the area after the Ramghat of the Seti River flowing through the central part of Pokhara became a lake due to incessant rains.

The squatters’ settlements at Pokhara-9 and Pokhara-11, the crematoriums of Shantighat and Bouddha Monastery have also been waterlogged due to rising water level at Ramghat.

Assistant Chief District Officer of Kaski, Chitrangat Baral, said that security personnel have been mobilized in the settlements surrounding Ramghat after the water level in the river has increased and the lake has been formed.

According to him, the officials of the District Security Committee led by Chief District Officer Kuman Singh Gurung conducted an on-site inspection of the area around Ramghat. “Locals themselves have said that there is no need to panic now even though the lake has become a lake due to the high flow of water like in the past. We are deploying security personnel and conducting precautionary and risk assessment. Looking at the current situation, it is necessary to be alert and cautious instead of panicking. As soon as there is a danger, the settlements on both sides of the river and on the other side of the river are in a safe place,” said Assistant CDO Baral.

Pokhara, however, is worried after the flow of the river flowing through the middle of the market was blocked and the lake was formed. Similarly, some rural roads in the district have been blocked due to incessant rains. The Nayapul-Birethanti-Ghandruk road has been obstructed after the Modi river erodes the road at Syauli Bazaar of Annapurna Rural Municipality-8 in Kaski.

Bharat Man Gurung, spokesperson of the rural municipality, said that Modi had cut 10 meters of the road at Syauli Bazaar on Friday evening. According to him, due to the road blockage, the tourist area of Ghandruk has been cut off from Pokhara.
