Kathmandu. Floods and landslides have disrupted various national highways and main roads across the country.

According to the Department of Roads, vehicular movement has come to a complete halt along seven national highways including the Prithvi Highway, BP Highway and Kanti Highway.

One-way and partial traffic has been opened on six road sections, including the East-West Highway. According to the department, one-way traffic has come into operation after a landslide occurred at Rajaiya of Makwanpur along the East-West Highway. Machines have been deployed to clear the landslide and operate the road completely.

Landslides have occurred at Krishnabhir, Tingrangkhani, Bange and Chalise of Dhading along the Prithvi Highway. The two-way road has been obstructed due to the landslide. Work is underway to clear the landslide.

The Narayanghat-Muglin road section has been obstructed due to a landslide on the Namsi Khola bridge. The process of removing the landslide is underway.

Traffic services have been disrupted due to landslides and floods in Mamti, Piple, Daunne-Kalopul, Charsaibensi, Katunje, Chaukidanda and other places along the BP Highway. The Department has stated that the road could not be operated today as the continuous rain and landslides have not stopped.

Similarly, vehicular movement has been halted due to landslides at Chapali and Takurchelayat areas of Kanti Highway. The road near Okhaldhunga-Salleri, Solukhola under the Siddhicharan Highway has been temporarily opened after the wall was cut down.

One-way traffic has been brought into operation along the Mid-Hill Highway by removing landslides and falling trees at Ghodabandhe-Hatiya section of Baglung, Narethanti, Kafalthuta, Jhankristhan and Chauraha.

It has been difficult to clear the landslide that occurred at Raghuganga-2, Baiseri Siruwari of Myagdi under the Kaligandaki Corridor due to rain. Similarly, one-way traffic has been opened for local traffic at Jaimini-8, Belbagar while long-distance vehicles are not allowed at present.

The road at Chharuwa Khola, Nava Khola and Ranigaon of the Mulghat-Phidim section of the Tamor corridor has been partially blocked. According to the department, the road will be blocked due to the rise in the river level and will be operational after it decreases.

The Kapurkot-Kharkhola-Tunikot section of the Rapti Highway has been completely closed due to landslides. Traffic has been affected due to landslides on the Gagne Khola, Ranka and Bangesimal-Dahikhola sections of the Rapti Highway. Work is underway to clear the landslide and bring the road into operation.

The Bhaluwang-Chakchake-Liwang road has been partially obstructed due to landslides at different places. Small vehicles have been brought into operation cautiously while the work of removing landslides and boulders is underway. Similarly, the Besisahar-Chame road has been completely closed due to the difficulty in clearing the landslide due to landslides in Khotro of Naso Rural Municipality of Manang.

Department’s Spokesperson Shuvaraj Neupane said that equipment and technicians have been mobilized in the affected areas to resume transport services and remove obstruction on the road.
