Floods and landslides displace 200 families in Myagdi

Myagdi. 200 families of Myagdi have been displaced due to rains and floods and landslides from September 22 to 11.

Ganesh Gaire, Chief District Officer of Myagdi, said that 200 families have been displaced by floods and landslides so far and said that security agencies and local levels have been mobilized to collect details. “In the first phase, we have focused on searching for those who died and disappeared in landslides and rescued those trapped,” he said, adding, “We have mobilized human resources at all local levels to collect details of damages in places where communication access is not available.”TAG_OPEN_div_28 ”

A Nepal TAG_OPEN_div_26 Army helicopter has been mobilized for rescue and relief in the affected areas as the road connectivity has been cut off. Six people have died and three are still missing in the landslide. CDO Gaire said that the families displaced by the landslide and those at risk have been provided shelter in safe places.

He said that 78 people of Annapurna Rural Municipality-5, who were most affected by the landslide, have been kept in temporary camps at Ghar and Shikh. Acting Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Dil Kumari Khatri, said that the Road Division Office, Baglung has repaired the Baglung-Beni road section in Bhasse and Khabara area.TAG_OPEN_div_20

The Gandaki Province government has repaired the Beni-Darbang road section through the Infrastructure Development Office so that one-way traffic can be operated. Gandaki Province Assembly member Resham Bahadur Jugjali said that the road repair work will be started from Tuesday in the landslide of Phaparkhet.

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road linking Raghuganga and Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi to Korlana of Mustang has been repaired from Mustang and Beni. The road from Beni to Galeshwor has been opened on Tuesday. CDO Gaire said that the repair work is being carried out through Nepal Telecom and Nepal Electricity Authority to continue the communication and electricity service in Beni and surrounding areas. Armed Police Force has been mobilized to supply drinking water from an alternative source in Beni Bazaar.
