Technical team begins study after Dodhara-Chandani suspension bridge collapses

Mahendranagar. The technical team has started a field study after the pillar of the Dodhara-Chandani suspension bridge over the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur collapsed.

Jagat TAG_OPEN_div_27 Prasad Joshi, director of the Transport Infrastructure Directorate of Sudurpaschim Province, said that a technical team including engineer Prakash Bam, who is known as an expert on the suspension bridge, has already reached Dodhara-Chandani for on-site monitoring and inspection of the bridge.

“We are also coming to the bridge site,” said Joshi, adding, “The study team will continue to monitor in detail.” According to the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, the vehicular movement has been halted after a pillar of the bridge connecting Bhimdatta Municipality and Dodhara-Chandani Municipality collapsed and about six meters of the bridge needed to be repaired.

Gyanendra Mahata, a lawmaker elected from Kanchanpur constituency-3, said that a team has been sent for a technical inspection of the bridge. Deepak Raj Bohara, a lawmaker from Kanchanpur constituency-2, said that one of the pillars of the bridge was damaged by the flood and urged the citizens not to go near the bridge for security reasons.TAG_OPEN_div_19

Similarly, former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak expressed sorrow over the collapse of the bridge and urged the government to reconstruct the bridge at the earliest.TAG_OPEN_div_17
