KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RPP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that the biggest strength of the Nepali Congress is its long political history. He said that he would always respect the contribution made by the Nepali Congress to the democratic movement of Nepal and that it should move forward by learning lessons from the history of the party.
Addressing the inaugural session of the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, Lamichhane said this while addressing the inaugural session of the party’s 15th General Convention.
Lamichhane described the long political history of the Nepali Congress as its big political capital. He said that he would always respect the contribution of the Nepali Congress for the establishment of democracy and political change in Nepal.
“The strength of the Nepali Congress is history. The weakness is also history,” he said, adding, “We must learn a lesson from the history of the Congress. We will move forward by learning a lesson in this.” ’
He said that the new generation should learn from the role played by the Congress in the past and its achievements as well as its shortcomings. He said that history should not only be taken as a matter of pride but also as a lesson for the coming political journey.
Lamichhane also talked about the possibility of being in the Congress. Indicating that he could be in the Congress if the Congress had given timely leadership and political opportunities to the new generation, he said that the parties should address the aspirations of the new generation and the desire for change.
Lamichhane said that the politics which is limited to speeches, slogans and manifestos is no longer enough, adding that the people have started seeing the work and results of the political parties. He said that if they are not able to work, the people can take decisions through elections, adding that the people’s mandate should be respected.
Lamichhane said that the difference between the political party and the flag is secondary in the case of the country. He said that all political forces should stand together on the issue of national interest.
“Party and flag are not different when it comes to party and country,” he said.
Lamichhane said that there is talk that the present government is weak and claimed that the government will not fall. He said that the decision to change the government will not be taken by the pressure or discussion of the political parties but by the people’s vote.
“We also hear that the government has become weak. This government does not fall, if it does not fall, others will fall,” he said.
Stating that no one political party should take the contract of democracy, Lamichhane said that if democracy is threatened, the people will protect it. He also said that the people have the right to remove or displace them through elections.
“Don’t take the contract of democracy, the people will save us if democracy is in danger,” Lamichhane said, adding, “Only elections can remove and displace us.” ’
He urged them not to insult the people’s decision by misleading the people’s vote through the elections. He said that if they are not able to work, the people will accept it saying that they may be beaten in the next election.
“If we can’t do the work, we have been told to cut the hills,” he said.
Lamichhane also expressed his commitment that the values and values of democracy achieved through sacrifice and struggle would not be weakened. Stating that any attempt to undermine democracy would not be acceptable, he said that it was the responsibility of all to protect the present political change.
Referring to the new phase under the leadership of Gagan Kumar Thapa in the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, Lamichhane said that the NC should move ahead by learning from its history. He said that although the long political history is the strength of the Congress, it should be linked with the aspirations of the new generation, the changing political situation and the expectations of the people.
