Myagdi. The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section of the Kaligandaki corridor linking China and India, which was blocked due to floods and landslides following the recent monsoon-induced disaster, has been obstructed at Kunauta Cliff.

} “For the repair of Beni-Jomsom-Korala road, the Kaligandaki river swept away the road and had to take risk from an alternative route,” he said, adding, “It may take one or two more days to fill the road, adjust the level and make it fit for vehicular movement.” ”
On Wednesday, six excavators and the same number of tippers carrying soil were deployed in Kunauta. Project Chief Sharma said that the preliminary repair work of the road bridge and the road bridge swept away by the Kaligandaki river at Pokhrebagar has been completed.
The 202-km Beni-Jomsom-Korala road from Pang of Kushma Municipality-1 of Parbat to Korala border point via Beni of Myagdi was blocked at 55 places due to floods and landslides following the rains in the second week of September. The floods in the Kaligandaki river after the rain from September 2 to 11 have swept away and damaged the road at 10 places.
The road from Maldhunga to Kunauta, Korala to Pokhrebagar road bridge has been repaired to allow the operation of heavy vehicles. Landslide clearing works are being done at Ratopani, Dhirchyang, Bhirkate, Mahabhir, Tiplang and Begkhola between Pokhrebagar and Kunauta.
Work is underway to construct a gabion wall and build a structure to connect the bridge to the road by mobilizing laborers and equipment on the Pokhrebagar bridge. Project technician Binod Poudel said that equipment and laborers have been mobilized with the aim of operating vehicles by next Monday.

Narendra TAG_OPEN_div_36 Subedi, chief of the Federal Road Supervision Project (FRP), Pokhara, said that the road construction works have been expedited by mobilizing 15 excavators, 12 tippers and 15 loaders from the Department of Roads and contractors.
“The Department of Roads and the construction company are working in parallel to open the obstructed road,” he said, “This year’s disaster has caused the biggest damage to this project that started in the fiscal year 2073/74.” The Department of Roads has estimated that Rs 3 billion will be required to reconstruct the road which has damaged Rs 800 million to Rs 900 million.
The Korala border point has become important for trade with China as Rasuwa and Tatopani border points are closed.
