Sindhupalchowk. The Tatopani border point between Nepal and China, which was temporarily opened from October 17, should be reopened regularly.

According to Ram Chandra Parajuli, general secretary of Nepal Himalayan Trans-border Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the transit point is currently open for only three days.

“More than 45 containers carrying goods targeting festivals like Dashain, Tihar and others have been stranded at Nyalam area of Sichang of China.

According to General Secretary Parajuli, the association has already submitted a memorandum to the Chinese government and the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, demanding the continued operation of the checkpoint. According to him, containers carrying goods aimed at the festival have been stopped at the border, a large part of these goods are perishables, agricultural products and seasonal trade goods, which are at risk of immediate deterioration. He said that it is necessary for the Tatopani border point to be fully operational to facilitate trade between the two countries in the absence of other checkpoints.

According to Narendra Singh Chaisir, customs officer at the Tatopani Customs Office, three containers entered through the border point on Sunday and only seven containers have arrived till this evening. He said, “Small containers have not been able to arrive as China has given permission only for cargo trucks.” He said that the containers included fruits, shoes, readymade clothes and agricultural products.
