Tamghas. The farmers of Rurukshetra rural municipality have made agriculture and animal husbandry the main means of employment. After the Ruru Agriculture Project run by the rural municipality helped the farmers in marketing their produce and produce, they have made agriculture and animal husbandry the main means of employment.
Ram Chandra Bhattarai, 78, of Ridi received 100 saplings free of cost through the Ruru Agriculture Project last year. The technicians of the project taught how to wear nuts. In the first week of June, he sold nuts worth Rs 60,000.
“The monkeys used to be disturbed while planting maize, i planted nuts on a trial basis,” he said, adding that only 35 plants survived when 100 saplings were planted. Apart from selling nuts, he has also sent them to friends, relatives and friends. He planted nuts in one ropanis of land.
On an average, nuts were sold at Rs 45 per kg in the local market. He planted 200 more saplings in June this year. “If maize had been planted, it would have been only Rs 8,000 from two muris,” he said, adding that the income increased significantly after planting nuts. He has also planted 50 mango saplings this year.
Pushpa Bhattarai, 34, another farmer, has also been earning a handsome income from the sale of chillies. Last year, the project had given ns 1700 variety of chilli seeds.
They are now earning income from the plant by producing saplings from the same seeds. He planted 1,400 saplings in one ropani and now sells chillies in shops and local markets. He has been selling at Rs 100 per kg in the local market and Rs 67 per kg in pancho. “I have to produce in two months,” he said, adding, “Now I am earning a decent income by staying at home.” He sells up to three quintals of chillies every week. Along with chili pepper, he has also cultivated vegetables including okra, bodi and goat farming.
Ram Chandra and Pushpa are only representative characters who are attracted to commercial farming. Like them, many farmers in Ruru have been attracted to commercial farming in recent times. Rurukshetra Rural Municipality implemented the Ruru Agriculture Project from last year. The project has been working in goat, milk, meat, vegetables, sugarcane, poultry, cattle rearing and grass.
This has increased the production of the entire municipality and the income of the farmers. “After the implementation of the project, grass plants have been found, which has contributed to milk production. ’
Meghraj Giri, a cattle farmer from Tahatim of Rurukshetra-5, said, “We are earning a lot by selling milk. He has reared four cows. He sells 45 litres of milk a day. The price of milk is up to Rs 70 per liter.
He sells milk through Bamgha Multipurpose Cooperative Society of Bamgha. The cooperative currently has 179 shareholders. All the shareholders have been marketing milk and vegetables through cooperatives.
Baburam Shrestha, a local, earns more than Rs 182,000 a month by selling milk in the cooperative, said Kul Chandra Puri, chairman of the cooperative. Shrestha said, “The project has helped in various technical issues including improvement of bark, grass seeds, and now we are engaged in commercial production of milk and vegetables.” ’
Selling vegetables worth Rs 3.5 million
The project run by the municipality is also working on production as well as marketing. Tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, gourds, chillies and vegetables produced last year were sold at different prices in Palpa and Paicho shops.

Rural municipality chair Yadu Gyewali said that work was being carried out as per the municipality’s goal of making agriculture and animal husbandry as the means of employment. He said that the municipality is supporting the farmers in the fields of fertilizer, seeds, technical advice, etc.
