Kathmandu. Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Ram Prasad Ghimire, has said that the practice of government employees avoiding the law should be put to an end.

Addressing a programme ‘Way Ahead for Revival of Economy’ organized by the Economic Journalists’ Association of Nepal here today, he said the government was formed on the foundation of Genji’s movement and that the bureaucracy could not run away by showing laws when the major demands of opportunity, good governance and transparency were to be addressed.

Stating that the interim government should work within the limits, he said making more commitments beyond the limit would increase frustration in the future.

He also stressed that the interim government should focus on its responsibilities, saying the government’s perspective towards the private sector should be clear. “We should not indulge in populism, we should only declare what can be done. The issue of physical damage as well as feeling unsafe should be addressed. Even if an ordinance is brought on basic issues, the law should be reformed. We should show commitment to this,” Secretary Ghimire said.

He said that the current problem has arisen due to the lack of part-time jobs among the youth. “If this is happening abroad, why not do it in Nepal? Now I hear that part-time jobs have started in department stores. All the industrialists of the private sector should pay attention,” Ghimire said.

Ghimire said that the government is facilitating the opening of the border point.
