Kathmandu. The festival of Bhai Tika is being celebrated on October 6.
The Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee has made public the auspicious time for this year’s Bhai Tika. According to the committee, the auspicious time for Bhai Tika is at 11:39 am on October 22.
Committee member Prof Devmani Bhattarai said although there was no obstruction in the afternoon for the tika on Kartik 6, the auspicious time has been given for Sagittarius Lagna, Kanya Navamsa, Chara Bela, Abhijit Yoga and Vijay Muhurat. “The state government should give the vaccine at the right time. There is no problem for the general public to get the tika in the midday,” he said.
This year, Yamapanchak began on Saturday, October 14. Since that day, Yamdeep Daan has started. Dhan Trayodashi and Dhanteras festivals also fall on the same day, according to the calendar approved by the committee. Kaag Tihar falls on Sunday, October 2. Dhanwantari Jayanti is also celebrated on this day.
On Monday, October 19, Kukur Tihar and Lakshmi Puja are celebrated in the evening. On this day, Deepamalika is celebrated in the evening. According to the committee, the decision regarding the festival has been taken as per the scriptures as Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi will continue till 02:52 pm on October 19 and then the new moon tithi will be held till 02:52 pm.
There is a scriptural saying that Lakshmi Puja should be performed on the day of the new moon in the evening. Bathing and donation on the new moon date will have to be done on Tuesday morning of October 4. According to the committee, the new date is till 4:29 pm on October 20.
Cow, oxen and Atma (Mha) worship were to be performed on October 5, Wednesday. It is mentioned in the book called ‘Krityavatika’ that self (Mha) should be worshiped in the evening of Kartik Shukla Pratipada. There is a tradition of Atma (Mha) worship, especially by the Newar community. The three calendars approved by the committee are published by the Almanackars of the Newar community. Siddhi Laxmi Byanjankar, Kirti Kiran Joshi and Shashidhar Joshi have also mentioned in their calendar that Atma (Mha) Puja will be performed on Kartik 5.
The committee has decided to celebrate the New Year as per the Nepal Sambat on the same day this year. Chairman Dhakal said that the decision was taken as per the scriptural provision that the New Year should be celebrated on the day of sunrise on the day of Pratipada. Nepal Sambat 1146 begins from this day.
According to the classical rituals, Bhai Puja and Kija Puja, also known as Kija Puja in Newari language, will also be celebrated on Kartik 6th Thursday. Dwitiya Tithi is only till 7:04 am on November 17. According to the scriptures, Bhai Tika is applied at noon.
In classical texts, the word brotherhood is mentioned, and it refers to both brothers. According to the committee, it is scriptural to give tika to brothers according to the order of the eldest, even though it is called Bhai Tika.
Every year from Kartik Krishna Trayodashi to Kartik Shukla Dwitiya, the Tihar festival called Yamapanchak is celebrated. In this festival, Yamdeepdan is performed from the evening of Kartik Krishna Trayodashi to the evening of Kartik Shukla Dwitiya. Yamdeepdan is done by pronouncing the name on the basis of the number of the family. There is a classical belief that donating Yamdeep on this occasion will get rid of Yama torture.
There is a Vedic tradition of making crows and dogs happy by giving them sweet food as messengers of death. It is believed that it will help in Yamalok.
