Kathmandu. A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has been held at the Ministry of Finance. The meeting lasted for about 2.5 hours on Tuesday evening.
Employees have been on strike for the past 43 days due to the decision of the revenue secretary of the Ministry of Finance. Despite the employees’ agitation, the board was preparing to hold a meeting. However, this is probably the first time in the history of the Finance Ministry that the meeting of the Board of Directors has been held in the Ministry of Finance due to the stance of Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Director of the Board of Directors, Uttar Kumar Khatri.
According to sources, the meeting was held at the ministry after Director Khatri insisted that he would not join the board under any circumstances. The board meeting held on Tuesday did not take any official decision. However, three options have been discussed to end the agitation by the employees of the board.
According to sources, in the meeting held on Tuesday, the board discussed three options to end the agitation that has been going on for 43 days. “We had a discussion for about 2.5 hours on Tuesday. No official decision has been taken in the meeting,” said a director present at the meeting. Three options have been discussed to solve this problem. He said a decision could not be taken at Tuesday’s meeting.
“There was a lot of discussion about the employees’ strike on Tuesday. Three options were discussed to stop the employees’ agitation and move ahead with the work. The first option is to implement the letter sent by the Revenue Secretary from the Ministry of Finance, secondly to the Chairman Santosh Narayan Shrestha to manage the agitation of the employees in the Board and the third option is to review the letter sent from the Ministry and send the letter to the Ministry for review. ’
According to him, discussions have also been held to form a committee to discuss the issue with the employees’ union regarding the agitation and the ministry’s letter. But no decision has been made. The Board of Directors of Sebon has formed a ‘discussion committee’ to discuss the matter.
On the other hand, the employees of the board are said to be preparing to stop the protest if the SEBON Board of Directors sends a letter sent by the revenue secretary for review.
The employees of the board have been on strike for 44 days.
