Kathmandu. Cases have been filed against 160 people with a demand of Rs 5 billion for revenue leakage in the last 11 months of the current fiscal year. A total of 48 charge sheets have been filed against 160 defendants for revenue leakage in the fiscal year 2081-82 BS.
According to the Revenue Leakage (Investigation and Control) Act, 2052, a charge sheet has been filed in the concerned high courts with a claim of Rs 2.59 billion and 100 percent fine of Rs 2.59 billion and a total of Rs 5.19 billion.
The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has sought a deposit of Rs 1.16 billion from firms and companies that carried out surprise inspections on the basis of the information received and internal information of the department after checking the transport vehicles that have been imported from customs evasion, customs check and transported from various transport companies.
Out of the deposit amount deposited in the department, the deposit has been approved and section 13A of the Act. (2) The amount of revenue leakage within the specified limit and Rs 551.8 million has been sent to the Internal Revenue Department and the Customs Department to recover the revenue.
The Department of Revenue Investigation is under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as an institutional arrangement to control revenue leakage. The Department of Revenue Investigation has been adopting promotional, preventive and punitive strategies in the field of revenue leakage control. Besides, the Department of Revenue Investigation has also been carrying out investigation and investigation into foreign exchange embezzlement and money laundering.
