Beijing. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has urged the Nepali community to invest in energy and other sectors in the country.
Minister Khadka, who is currently on a visit to China, said the government would take responsibility for the security of investment while visiting the trade fest in Beijing.
Minister Khadka expressed the belief that economic prosperity could be achieved through the energy sector as Nepal is a country with immense potential of water resources. The government has already created an environment for investment. Now we all have to work together for the development of the country. ’
Minister Khadka shared that the government has set a target of generating 28,500 MW of hydropower by 2035, out of which more than 15,000 MW electricity would be exported to third countries including India. Similarly, Nepal is currently selling 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh and an agreement has been reached to increase the quantity to 5,000 MW in the coming year.
Energy Minister Khadka expressed commitment to pass the Water Resources and Electricity Bill, which is under discussion in the Parliament, soon. According to him, the government is moving ahead with a clear policy and action plan for the development of the country by making public the Energy Development Roadmap-2081.
During the meeting, representatives of the Nepali community recalled their past experiences and stressed that the government should give priority to investment security. Appreciating the clear vision shown by the government in the energy sector and the initiative of Minister Khadka, they said that they were ready for cooperation.
Minister Khadka expressed the belief that Nepal would soon move towards economic prosperity due to the long-term plans in the energy sector and urged the Nepali community to invest in Nepal.
