Paddy sown in 72,520 hectares in Lumbini

Lumbini. Paddy has been sown in more than 72,000 hectares of land in Lumbini province this year.

According to the data TAG_OPEN_div_38, only 72,520 hectares of land has been planted so far. This is 23.94 percent of the total potential area. A total of 302,939 hectares of land is under paddy cultivation in Lumbini Province.

Director General ram Prasad Pandey said TAG_OPEN_div_26 that the state government has been carrying out various programmes including seed production, technology demonstration, irrigation, increasing concentration, chaite paddy promotion and conservation of indigenous varieties to increase paddy production.

At present, there are variet TAG_OPEN_div_24 ies of Savitri, Sama Mansuli, Hardinath 6, Radha 4, Dry Paddy 1 and 2, Gangasagar 1 and 2, Khumal Basmati etc. In addition, the use of traditional varieties of paddy such as Tilki, Simtharo, Kalanamak, Hansraj, Jinuwa, Mansara is also increasing.

Similarly TAG_OPEN_div_22, paddy cultivation in the state contributes 56.15 per cent to the total food production and 43.87 per cent to the total consumable food. On the occasion of the National Paddy Day, State Agriculture Minister Dinesh Panthi said the government has launched a special campaign to make Lumbini province an ‘organic’ province. He said that the campaign was started from Rukum East of the state.

Agriculture Secretary Yam Narayan Devkota said TAG_OPEN_div_20 the government was committed to the promotion of paddy as it is not only a major food crop but also associated with culture and tradition.
