Baglung. Chitradevi Sapkota of Rumta village of Amlachaur of Baglung municipality-12 in the district, who used to carry drinking water to her house three months ago, is now stunned with the availability of drinking water at home.

Chitradevi said that the shortage of drinking water is not today but she knows it, adding that it has become a dream to reach the house through the lift of water from the root of the house. It has been three months since sapkota’s house, which has been carrying drinking water for years, fell on him as he was the only source of drinking water below rumta settlement.

Drinking water has been provided to 16 houses in the area, which have been out of reach of drinking water for many years due to lack of drinking water sources. “We had to get up at four o’clock and stand in a queue of gagri, we used to come to the house if there was a source above the settlement, there is a root in ploughing deep below the settlement,” he said, adding, “Now the water is coming upwards after being pulled by the electric motor, we are stunned when the water tap came to the house, we were living in India due to lack of drinking water, now we have returned to the village after getting drinking water.” The village, which was devastated due to drinking water, has started turning green again.

Like the Sapkota couple, the neighbours have also started migrating to the village after getting a drinking water tap at home. Recalling that water was also brought to the houses of the village to build bowls, Sapkota said that he had not imagined that the water under the settlement would come above the settlement through the lift.

Despite being far behind in drinking water due to being a small settlement, now drinking water has finally come to the house through lift. Sagar Adhikari, an engineer at the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office, said that drinking water has been supplied to the settlement above 100 meters at a cost of Rs 3 million. Adhikari said rs 3 million was spent to provide drinking water taps to 16 households as the village was facing acute drinking water problems. After the registration of the drinking water company, the Gandaki state government will provide the electricity tariff at a subsidized rate.

Yadunath Sapkota, who has been doing business in the market for the last 22 years, said that he left the city and worked as the chairman of the consumer committee of the drinking water project after seeing the problem of drinking water in the village. Sapkota, chairman of the consumer committee, said, “I have returned to my village after 22 years due to drinking water supply, i hope other neighbours will also return. ’

Dil Bahadur Sapkota, a local, expressed happiness that the situation of carrying drinking water in the present situation has come to an end. Drinking water has been provided to 16 houses under the Deep Tillne Lift Drinking Water Scheme, while the work of providing drinking water to 30 houses under the Kholsidhara Dholechaur Lift Project in Dholechaur village near Amlachaur Health Post has reached the final stage.

Engineer Adhikari said that 70 percent physical progress has been made so far in the project being constructed with the joint investment of the Federal Drinking Water and Sewerage Management Project and the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office. Around Rs 3.2 million will be spent on the two offices for the lift drinking water project.

The Water Supply and Sanitation Division Office has set a target of drawing water above 100 meters from the source to provide drinking water to 30 houses under the Kholsidhara Dholechaur Lift Project by Mid-June and provide taps to households by the beginning of the next fiscal year.
