Lalitpur. Kathmandu: The first national conference on ‘Field Epidemiology’ has concluded by issuing a seven-point manifesto.

The epidemiology and disease control division (TAG_OPEN_div_18 EDCD) with the support of the World Health Organization (EDCD) concluded the two-day conference in Lalitpur on Monday with the theme ‘Unity for Strong Health: Field Epidemiology, Surveillance and Policy Direction’.

The first point of TAG_OPEN_div_16 the declaration includes institutionalizing field epidemiology in the health system to enhance the capacity of health manpower for timely diagnosis, research and response to diseases.

Advocating for identification of field epidemiology manpower working at the federal, provincial and local levels as indispensable human resources, ensuring effective use of field epidemiology skills to make disease surveillance, disaster response and policy arrangements, mobilizing field epidemiology manpower for effective prevention, control and response to epidemics and informing every research and report at the national forum; The declaration seeks to promote fact-based decision-making by converting data and field research findings from the monitoring system into implementable policies and programmes.

Similarly, a national conference TAG_OPEN_div_12 of field epidemiology should be organized every two years to promote collaboration, learning and coordination between field epidemiology manpower and concerned bodies through experience exchange and knowledge sharing programs and to promote experience, continuing learning, collaboration, and strategic dialogue between professionals and partners in the health sector. ।

Conference participants endorsed the declaration as an expression of a strong commitment to building a shared vision, strong, responsive and fact-based health system. Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Bikash Devkota, said in the inaugural session of the conference on Sunday that field epidemiologists would play a major role in controlling the disease.
