Maheshpur Customs Office destroys sugar worth Rs 4 million

Nawalparasi. Maheshpur Customs Office of Palhinandan Rural Municipality-1 has destroyed sugar worth rs 4 million 12 thousand.

Chief of the Customs Office, Bikash Upadhyay, said that the sugar seized four years ago was destroyed by digging a pit on the banks of the Jharahi river here today.

According to him, 62,700 kilograms of sugar imported from India in the fiscal year 2078/79 BS was seized from various places by the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force. It is said that sugar could not be destroyed four years ago due to lack of budget with the office.

Rajendra Prasad Dhungana, deputy sub-inspector at the Customs Office, said that the customs has not forwarded the auction process after the Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Bhairahawa said that sugar was not fit for consumption.

Similarly, 70 sacks of paddy seeds worth Rs 588,000 brought illegally from neighbouring India were also destroyed today, said Nayab Subba Dhungana.
