Kathmandu. The National Assembly has passed the Customs Bill, 2080 BS.
In today’s meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel presented a proposal seeking the passage of the Customs Bill- 2080 BS received from the House of Representatives with a message.
Presenting the proposal, Finance Minister Poudel expressed the belief that after the implementation of the new law, customs leakage could be controlled, the use of technology would be increased, customs check pass could be worked out quickly and effectively.
The government has brought this bill stating that it is necessary to amend the Customs Act to make the customs clearance process more technology-friendly and easy and to make it compatible with the Kyoto Convention, which is a party country to Nepal.
Nepal is a party to the revised Kyoto Convention and the Trade Facilitation Agreement of the World Trade Organization. According to these agreements, the general provisions of the amended Kyoto Convention should be implemented within three years of becoming a member and the transitional criteria within five years.
Similarly, the government has brought this bill saying that the provisions related to customs should be addressed through customs act rules for trade facilitation. The Act will come into force from the 91st day from the date of certification.
The next meeting of the National Assembly will be held at 1:15 pm on Friday.
