Kathmandu. Speaker Devraj Ghimire has discussed with the major political parties to form an inquiry committee on the issue of tampering of the provision related to cooling of period provided in the ‘Federal Civil Service Bill 2080 BS’.
Speaker Ghimire held discussions with UML Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartola, NC Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey at the Speaker’s office in Singhadurbar on Thursday afternoon. Deputy Speaker Indira Rana was also present in the meeting.
The Speaker proposed to form a committee as per Rule 180 of the House of Representatives Regulations, 2079 BS. He also demanded the proposal of the parties regarding the work to be done by the committee and its duration and the names of the members of the committee.
The major parties have suggested that it would be appropriate to form a parliamentary inquiry committee. They said that there was no need to seek the government’s opinion as the provisions of the bill had been distorted by the legislature. Leaders of all the three major political parties said they would inform the Speaker after holding discussions with their respective parties.
The parties have reached an agreement to propose the committee in the House of Representatives in consultation with the Business Advisory Committee by forging an understanding between the parties before the meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled to be held on July 15.
President of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Ramhari Khatiwada, verbally informed about the decisions of the committee meeting held on Wednesday, but no formal information has been received, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
