Hong Kong. A discussion program on the novel ‘Kiwang’ written by litterateur Rajkumar Rai was held in Hong Kong. Litterateur Dr. Puran Rai, Vice President of Nepali Federation Nabin Subhang, critics Bajra Kumar Rai and Chandra Maden Anchan spoke about this work.
Dr. Rai said that the novel is very important from a sociological point of view. He said that politics and culture were trying to show in it. Subahang commented that all Nepalis have written a novel on the subject of novelist Rai not being written.
“If he had stayed in Nepal, a party man would have done corruption by becoming a minister,” he said, adding, “Sablabung (shabdpushp) has joined the library campaign in Nepal through social and literary activities after leaving politics and the country.” ’
Critic Rai said that ‘Kiwang’ is very useful for study-researchers and researchers. “There’s a lot in the book. Read the search,” he said. Another critic, Anchan, said that lahure’s struggles and sufferings in different countries, kirat culture, discrimination by Nepal and The British have been highlighted in the novel. According to him, the chinese and rai words have been used by lahures like 16, 17, 25 and 26.
Writer Rai said that he wrote Kiwang as he was of the view that literature should be written above entertainment and intellectual luxury. “Today’s readers are not interested in love, rich and poor, sexual frustration,” he said, adding, “While reading literature, they are interested in reading topics that they have not heard, have not experienced or seen.” ’
He said that it not only covers the history of Gorkhas but also the economic and social life of various countries including Nepal after the world war. “The war history of the British Gurkhas has been heard, seen and written by the world. But why was the story of shedding the blood of the Lahuras free of cost not written,” he said, adding, “The life, cultural pain, inhuman discrimination and exploitation by the British and the then Nepal government have been hidden.” ’
He said that he has written so that future generations should understand the same thing. “Today it’s just a novel. History may also change in the future as it is written in reality,” he said, adding that the role played by the Lahuras in bringing about social change in Nepal seven decades ago was not written. ’
On the occasion, Sablabung Library Campaign and Archives jointly presented certificates of honour to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the Nepali community in Hong Kong in various disciplines.
Hem Pun in sports, Ram Krishna Bantawa in literature, Dr Tika Rana in health, Jagat Bahadur Gurung in journalism and Kirat Rai Yoyakkha in culture category have been honoured. The campaign honoured Dom Rana, Bishu Sam, Rajendra Limbu, Kasit Rai and Gopal Rai.
