Texas. At least 50 people have been killed in torrential flooding in the US state of Texas. Rescue workers are searching for 27 missing girls.

Several emergency flood warnings have been issued in central Texas as water levels rise to communities, with the Guadalupe River rising by 26 feet (eight meters) in just 45 minutes due to flooding.

Hundreds of people were staying in a summer camp in Kerr County when the flood caused a large number of human casualties.

Sheriff Larry Leitha said: “We have rescued 43 people in Kerr County. Of them, 28 are adults and 15 are children. ’

Other counties have also been affected by flooding and many victims have been found. The death toll from the floods has risen to 50 so far.

Nim Kidd, head of the Texas Department of Emergency Management, said air, land and naval forces continued to search for the missing people along the Guadalupe River.

“The search for all those missing will continue till they are found,” he said. ’

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he was expanding the state’s disaster declaration and requesting president Donald Trump for more federal resources.

Vice President J.D. Vance on Saturday described the disaster as an “incomprehensible tragedy”.

Great human loss

Freeman Martin, director of the Texas State Department of Public Safety, said the situation was challenging for rescuers due to the continuous heavy rain.

Martin described the disaster as a “mass casualty”. State and local authorities have warned residents traveling in dozens of road areas, including the yamp grounds along the river.

Videos circulated on social media showed flooding caused by heavy rains of up to 12 feet washed away homes and trees, a third of Kerr County’s average annual rainfall.
