Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is also interested in the complaints of businessmen that there was a problem after the implementation of the legal provision to mention the maximum retail selling price (MRP) in the label of goods sold in the market. Yubaraj Khatiwada informed.
He said this at an interaction programme organized by The Nepal Overseas Export Importers Association in Kathmandu to discuss with the stakeholders the difficulties arising out of the implementation of MRP. “We have conveyed to the Prime Minister the complaints of the businessmen that there was a problem after the implementation of the provision of MRP,” he said. Khatiwada said, “He has asked to discuss and resolve this problem. Therefore, businessmen should not be afraid. ’
He said that the entrepreneurs should not be afraid of the government as the present government has moved ahead to prove the complaints of the entrepreneurs not listening to their problems. “The government has taken unpopular steps in a democracy like an ordinance to create a business and investment-friendly environment,” he said. Khatiwada said, “Some difficult laws have also gone into repeal. While repealing the 20 percent profit provision of the Black Market Act, the government also abused the black marketeers for colluding with the black marketeers. ’
He also suggested that if there is a problem in mentioning MRP on the label, then go to the option of keeping the price list on the website. Stating that there will be resistance when there is a sudden big change, he said that the option of gradually complying should be chosen rather than the option of amending the law. He suggested that the law enforcement agencies should be flexible in this regard.
He stressed that MRP should not be sought in small items that make it difficult to do business. Khatiwada said the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection should assure the entrepreneurs in this regard. “The department should assure us that we will not look for stickers on small things,” he said. The department should not go to other regulatory bodies. Khatiwada suggested.
On the occasion, Director General of the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection, Kumar Prasad Dahal, said that mrp can be mentioned only in the box of small items. “In the case of small items, mrp stickers are placed in the box and not in the unit,” said Director General Dahal. Dahal said this in response to the complaints of the businessmen that packaging should be opened to apply MRP stickers in every unit of the goods, repackaging the beauty after putting the sticker will spoil the beauty and the goods that have opened the packaging will not be sold.
Stating that the legal provision regarding MRP is clear, he said that MRP is not mandatory in traditional goods and different MRP can be mentioned in goods sold in different places. He also clarified that MRP is mandatory only on goods kept for sale in the outlet. “It is only in the goods kept in the outlet, not in the goods of the warehouse. We don’t monitor the stock,” he said.
According to him, the department is also going to make it mandatory to issue bills and receipts for every item sold. Director General Dahal said, “The information is coming tomorrow.” He said that there is no limit on the maximum retail selling price (MRP) when the law prohibiting profit of more than 20 percent has been repealed. “We are in an open economy and we are not asking why we have fixed such an MRP,” dahal said.
Earlier, Association General Secretary Jayant Agrawal made a presentation incorporating the difficulties arising out of MRP and its difficult aspects.
