Work on Dodhara-Chandani dry port to begin soon: Home Minister Lekhak

Kanchanpur. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that the construction of dry port at Dodhara-Chandani in Kanchanpur would start soon.

Inspecting TAG_OPEN_div_18 the dry port construction site today, he said that the work would start soon as the contract for the construction of the port has been approved. Home Minister Lekhak said, “The contract has been approved for the construction of necessary infrastructure in the port. Preparations are being made to lay the foundation stone soon. The plan is to build the port within three years after the construction starts. ’

A total of TAG_OPEN_div_16 1,593 trees have already been cut on 41 hectares of land of Mayapuri Community Forest in Dodhara-Chandani Municipality-1 for the construction of the port.

A TAG_OPEN_div_14 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India on June 1, 2023 for the port to be constructed with the financial and technical support of the Government of India.  According to the agreement, preparations are being made for the construction from both sides. The Indian side has already invited tenders for the construction of the port at a cost of Rs 2.54 billion and selected the construction company.

According to TAG_OPEN_div_12 the Intermodal Transport Development Committee, two warehouses, customs check and quarantine building, immigration and security building will be constructed on the land used for the construction of the port.

Nepal has already constructed a six-lane access road to the dry port and a four-lane concrete bridge over the Mahakali River. TAG_OPEN_div_10 India is building an access road to the port on its territory. With the construction of the dry port, the opening of the western border is expected to open the door to the possibility of far-western development.
