BRICS nations criticise Trump’s tariffs, condemn attacks on Iran

Washington. At sunday’s summit, BRICS leaders targeted US President Donald Trump’s “indiscriminate” import duties and recent Israeli-AMERICAN attacks on Iran.

Although the group is divided on many issues, the U.S. leader and his stop-start have found common reasons for the customs duty wars that begin.
Expressing “serious concern over unilateral tariff hikes”, according to a joint statement from the
summit, brics members said customs duties risked harming the global economy.
On Sunday night, Trump gave a direct reply to this group on social media. “Any country that aligns itself with BRICS’s anti-US policies will be subject to an additional 10 per cent customs duty. There will be no exception to this policy,” Trump wrote on his Truth social platform.
Earlier, BRICS condemned a series of military attacks on nuclear and other targets by Israel and the United States and offered symbolic support to fellow member Iran.
In April, Trump threatened allies and rivals alike with punitive duties, before proposing a month-long break to deal with market sales.

The summit announcement did not criticize the United States or its president at any point, giving a clear concession to US allies such as Brazil, India, and Saudi Arabia.

The
summit also called for regulation to control artificial intelligence (AI) and said that this technology cannot be the only protection of wealthy nations.
