Government and doctors’ association agree, postpone agitation programmes

Kathmandu. The government and the doctors’ association have reached an agreement today. With the agreement, health services have resumed from today.

The doctors were protesting against the consumer court’s decision to pay a large amount of money to doctors and health institutions. They suspended non-emergency services.

It has been agreed to form a task force to submit a report with suggestions to amend the law today.

It has been agreed to form a task force within seven days to submit a report with suggestions for necessary amendments in the existing legal and policy arrangements to properly address the demands of the agitating Nepal Doctors’ Association and various associations and concerns.

The chief of the Supply Management and Consumer Interest Protection Division of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies is the coordinator. Similarly, joint secretary level representative of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will be the member while the joint secretary level representative of the Ministry of Health and Population will be the member.

It has been agreed that the ministry concerned will seek in-principle consent from the Council of Ministers within 11 days for necessary amendments to the existing law and policy provisions, including the Consumer Protection Act 2075 BS, to implement the report received from the taskforce to the negotiating team comprising the three ministers and the Stakeholders including The Nepal Medical Association.

Nepal Medical Association and other concerned organizations have agreed to suspend all kinds of agitations from today and resume regular services.
