Flood washes away 4 bridges in Upper Mustang

Mustang. According to the District Police Office, Mustang, six bridges were damaged in the flood on Tuesday evening. Chumjung Rivulet at Chhoser of Lomanthang Rural Municipality-4, a northern border village between Nepal and China, was flooded for nearly three hours.

According to the District Police Office, Mustang, the flood damaged two motorable bridges including a bridge over Chumjung Rivulet at Lomanthang-4 and another under-construction bridge at Samjung in Lomanthang-2.

According to the District Police Office, Mustang, the flood damaged the iron bridge and three wooden bridges in the area. Mustang’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Tshering Kippa Lama said that a hotel operating in the middle of a rivulet and two houses in Nyamdo village, about 400 meters away in Lomanthang-4, have been shifted to safer places. According to him, there was no loss of human and livestock in the area due to the flood.

Although the flood level is slowing down, a nine-member team has been deployed under the command of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police from Area Police Office Chhoser and Armed Police Inspector from Armed Police Force (BOP) Nechung at Chhoser to take security precautions in the area, he said.

The security personnel deployed there have been informed about the possible threat to the locals. The District Police Office Mustang has also urged the locals to take necessary precautions as the risk of possible risk has not abated even though the flow of flood has reduced in the area.
