Japan grants 572 million Japanese yen for ‘Zedius’ project

Kathmandu. The Government of Japan is going to provide grant assistance of about 537 million Nepali rupees to the Government of Nepal under the Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) project.

The TAG_OPEN_div_34 Government of Japan and the Government of Nepal signed a Memorandum of Exchange and Grant Agreement at a program organized at the Ministry of Finance today. The Government of Japan has received a grant of about 572 million Japanese yen for the year 2025.

Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Toru Moda signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the occasion. TAG_OPEN_div_32

Chief TAG_OPEN_div_30 of International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Dhaniram Sharma and Chief of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal Mizuki Matsuzaki signed the grant agreement.

According TAG_OPEN_div_28 to the agreement, the grant amount received under the agreement will be spent on university fees, livelihood expenses, travel allowance, insurance and educational materials for 20 postgraduate students and two PhD (PhD) students.

The Japanese Human Resource Development Scholarship Program is an educational initiative in operation with the support of the Government of Japan since 2015 and the program has been implemented at various stages.

So far TAG_OPEN_div_24, 142 Nepali civil service employees, 140 post-graduates and two PhD students have completed their studies from reputed educational institutions in Japan through this scholarship.

During the signing TAG_OPEN_div_22 agreement, Secretary Upadhyay expressed the belief that the scholarship programme has contributed significantly to the capacity building of civil service employees in Nepal and would continue to do so in the future.

He said that the knowledge and skills acquired during the study in Japan would help improve public service delivery in Nepal and contribute to overall socio-economic development. TAG_OPEN_div_20 Ambassador Toru Moda expressed the belief that the employees who have completed their studies under the GDS programme would play an important role in nepal’s development and further strengthen the long-term friendly relations between the two countries.

TAG_OPEN_div_18 Officials of the Ministry of Finance, Embassy of Japan in Nepal, Zika Nepal and GDS OC were present on the occasion.
