Myagdi. Myagdi: The Myagdi river has been blocked this afternoon due to a landslide that occurred from a cliff at Bansbot of Dhaulagiri rural municipality-4 in Myagdi district.
Dhaulagiri rural municipality vice-chair Resham Pun Magar said the lake was formed after the landslide piled up in the river. It is said that landslides are continuously occurring there.
The landslide has accumulated in myagdi river under the cliff of Kausibot on the border of Dhaulagiri rural municipality-4 and 7. Tam Pun, a resident of Chhahari, a neighbouring village of Basbot, said that the level of myagdi river, which rose after heavy rainfall in the morning, has decreased due to landslide.
Coastal settlements have been put on high alert after the river was blocked. Chhahari, Kalleni, Bharwang, Sambata, Thapachaur, Darwang, Chiswang, Khopti, Pipalbot, Babiyachaur, Torakhet, Simalchaur, Tatopani, Singa and Beni Bazar are the settlements along the coast of myagdi river.
Dhaulagiri rural municipality chair Prem Prasad Pun, vice-chair Resham Pun Magar, people’s representatives and security personnel from Takam police post have rushed to the spot. Chairman Pun said that after reaching the spot, it can be said how much the lake has been built.
He said that the administration office has been requested to be cautious as the lake formed by the blocking of the river can cause erosion and flooding in the coastal areas. Myagdi River, which has its source in Dhaulagiri Mountain, merges with Kaligandaki river at Beni Bazaar.
