According to the Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN), the production of about 250 MW hydropower projects in operation has been stopped due to the flood. Construction of projects with a capacity of more than 350 MW has also been halted. According to IPPAN, these projects have suffered huge physical and economic losses.
The generation of 111 MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower, 60 MW Trishuli 3A Hydropower, 25 MW Trishuli Hydropower Station, 22 MW Chilime Hydropower, 14 MW Upper Mailung, 14 MW Devighat Hydropower Project and 5 MW Mailung Khola Hydropower Project has been stopped. Of these, the trishuli 3B hub substation, which supplies electricity to Mailung, Upper Mailung, Devighat and Trishuli hydropower stations, has been damaged.
Except Devighat, Trishuli and Trishuli 3A, all other hydropower projects have been constructed with the participation of the private sector, while all the projects under construction are under construction under the leadership of the private sector.
Similarly, 216 MW Upper Trishuli 1, 100 MW Super Trishuli and 37 MW Trishuli 3B hydropower projects have also been damaged due to floods. Due to the damage to the Trishuli 3B Hub substation and transmission line, which transmits electricity from the Trishuli River Corridor, the electricity generated from here will have to suffer a loss of crores of rupees every day due to lack of production and transmission.
Dozens of cargo containers and hundreds of vehicles kept at the customs point have also been washed away from timure dry port, the dry port under construction has been completely ruined and the bridge at the main trade point of Nepal-China has been washed away.
IPPAN has urged the government to create an environment for the resumption of the border points as soon as possible as the closure of the main transit points between Nepal and China, which has an annual trade of more than Rs 100 billion, will also have a serious impact on the revenue collection of the Government of Nepal.
IPPAN has demanded necessary policy and procedural facilitation in the reconstruction of the damaged structures and make arrangements for power generation and transmission. It has also urged the Government of Nepal to take necessary steps to avoid further loss of life and property.
