Beijing. China has been making significant progress in energy consumption as part of its 14th five-year plan. National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) chief Zheng Shanchye said on Wednesday that energy consumption has decreased by 11.6 percent compared to gdp in the first four years of the scheme.
According to him, this reduction is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.1 billion tons, which is about 50 percent of the total carbon emitted by the European Union.
Responsibility of a large nation
“China’s actions and commitment clearly demonstrate its role as a responsible nation in protecting the environment,” Zheng said. ’
In recent years, China has prioritized measures such as the use of energy-efficient technologies, investment in renewable energy and reducing energy wastage. Green policies are being strictly implemented in industry, transport and construction sectors.
Steps toward long-term goals
China aims to reach its highest level of carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve complete carbon neutrality (zero emissions) by 2060.
For this, the government has taken strategic initiatives such as industry transformation, green infrastructure development and diversification of energy resources.
Experts have commented that China’s move is a positive message to the global community in the context of the environmental crisis. China’s experience has given developing countries an example that environmental protection is possible with economic growth.
