Floods in Baglung damage more than Rs 1 billion

Baglung. Baglung: The flood caused by incessant rains on Tuesday night has caused damage worth rs 1.04 billion at Paiyunthanthap of Jaimini municipality-9 in Baglung district. The flood in The Kalung Khola, which flows through Paiyunthanthap-9, has completely damaged the Kalungkhola Hydropower Project.

Harihar Sharma, deputy mayor of Jaimini municipality, said the hydropower project was washed away causing a loss of around Rs 20 million. As many as 122 households in the area have been forced to live in darkness due to the damage caused to the project. The flood has washed away a bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 3.5 million in the same area alone. The ‘transformer’ of the central power transmission line has also been damaged.

Similarly, the cultivable land in the area has been turned into a wasteland. Deputy Mayor Sharma said that the fields producing 800 to 1,000 muri paddy annually have been turned into orchards. Six houses are at high risk of landslides due to floods. The houses of Kul Bahadur Thapa, Tek Bahadur Thapa, Khadga Bahadur Thapa, Kair Singh Thapa, Pahal Singh Thapa and Khem Bahadur Thapa are at high risk of landslide. Five houses are at risk and two sheds have been completely damaged.

The cowsheds of Tek Bahadur and Khadka Bahadur have been damaged. A bull in Tek Bahadur’s cowshed has died. The flood has also blocked the road leading to Bareng via Kushmisera-Paiyunthanthap-Rangkhani. Ten irrigation wells have been damaged in the area. According to Deputy Mayor Sharma, the damage is estimated to be around Rs 1.04 billion.
