Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that around 260 MW of electricity has been disconnected from the national transmission system due to the recent floods in Rasuwa.

In today’s meeting of the National Assembly, Minister Khadka had presented a proposal seeking consideration of the Water Resources Bill, 2081 BS received from the House of Representatives with a message. The assembly unanimously approved the proposal.

Before presenting the proposal, Minister Khadka shared that around 260 MW of electricity has been disconnected from the national transmission system due to damage to important hydropower projects and transmission structures operating in the Trishuli river corridor due to floods in Rasuwa on Tuesday.

According to him, 111 MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, 22 MW Chilime Hydropower Project, 21 MW Trishuli Hydropower Project and 14 MW Devighat Project have been disrupted due to floods.

Minister Khadka said that the main cause of the flood was not rain, but the glacial lake located in the upper catchment area was flowing from the explosion. Minister Khadka said, “It has been confirmed through the Sentinel Asia Plate that a super glacier located in the Lande Khola within the Rasuwa-Tibet region has been reduced from 0.75 square kilometers to 0.60 square kilometers before the incident.”
