Oman. Outgoing Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Kulman Ghising, has said that the state should honour the workers who send remittances to the Gulf countries by staying away from their families.
Outgoing Managing Director Kulman Ghising said that an environment should be created to honor the workers working in the Gulf countries who send remittances of about Rs 7.5 trillion annually to the Middle Eastern countries Bahrain, Oman, UAE and Qatar.
Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by Nepalis in Oman, Ghising said the country’s economic prosperity could not be achieved unless an environment was created to respect labour.
“Nepalis coming for foreign employment are being harassed by creating unnecessary problems from the International Airport in Kathmandu,” he said, adding that the people who have contributed to sustain the country’s economy should not be harassed, the problem should be resolved and respected, not foreign role but labour opportunities should be created at home. ’
He called upon all to join the ‘Ujjal Nepal Campaign’ announced to assure that something will happen and can be done within the country. He said that ‘Bright Nepal’ is not only a campaign of electricity but also a campaign of change for the overall economic revolution within the country to achieve good governance, efficient public service delivery, social justice and economic prosperity.
Ghising is on a visit to The Middle Eastern countries of Bahrain, Oman, UAE and Qatar to meet Nepalis sweating it out in foreign lands. He also visited the housing area where Nepali workers working there live and interacted.
On the occasion, Ghising was honoured on behalf of the Nepali community in Oman for his significant contribution to the country’s energy sector by ending load shedding.
