Birgunj. The Inland Revenue Office, Birgunj, has collected Rs 9.45 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year. The office has collected Rs 2.58 billion more revenue in the last fiscal year as compared to the fiscal year 2080/81 BS.

Chief Tax Officer at the Office, Tikaraj Chaulagain, said the growth rate of revenue collection in the last fiscal year was 35.57 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. “The Inland Revenue Department had set a revenue collection target of Rs 8.71 billion in the last fiscal year,” he said, adding that the office had achieved 109 per cent of the annual target in the last fiscal year. The office has been able to achieve ‘one plus’ level based on the functional indicators set by the department. ’

The department had set a revenue collection target of Rs 9.41 billion for the fiscal year 2080÷81 BS. However, during the same period, the office collected rs 6.87 billion or 72.93 per cent of the annual target.

Chief Tax Officer Chaulagain said that the office has been able to collect more revenue than the target due to strict recovery of arrears. “Bank accounts, real estate, import and export of taxpayers who did not pay revenue in March were frozen. This has greatly helped in achieving the revenue collection target,” he said, adding, “The office has been able to increase revenue due to awareness programs including intensive market monitoring and taxpayer education.” ’

The office has collected Rs 4.13 billion in excise duty tax against the target of Rs 3.09 billion in the last fiscal year. Similarly, the office had set a target of collecting Rs 2.89 billion in income tax revenue in the last fiscal year. In the last fiscal year, the office had set a target of collecting Rs 2.58 billion in value added tax( VAT). Chief Tax Officer Chaulagain said that the target could not be achieved due to the non-collection of VAT as per the target as 15 taxpayers here had gone beyond the transaction limit and went to the large taxpayer offices and medium-level taxpayer offices.
