Two ministers discuss Mazagon airport: ‘Re-operation of airport is also a promise made to voters in election’

Kathmandu. Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey today held discussions at the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the reconstruction and upgradation of Mazagon Airport in Kanchanpur.

Minister Lekhak and Pandey discussed the issue of reconstruction of Mazagon Airport, which has been closed since 2056 BS, and bringing it back into operation at the earliest. Ishwori Prasad Joshi, chief personal secretary to Home Minister Lekhak, said, “Discussions were held in the presence of the concerned officials regarding the reconstruction of the airport soon and the temporary operation of the airport.” ’

In the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS, the federal government has allocated Rs 50 million for the construction of terminal building and Rs 133 million for runway construction. “We have allocated a good budget for the reconstruction of Mazagon Airport amidst budget constraints,” said Tourism Minister Pandey. ’

Home Minister Lekhak TAG_OPEN_div_12, who visited Mazagon a few days ago for an on-site inspection of the airport, said there would be no problem in the reconstruction of the airport. The Nepal Army has already provided 150 metres of land for the expansion of the airport while constructing the 1,525-metre runway. According to the Ministry, the construction of the runway has been completed by January next year.
