Irrigation Minister Khadka inspects Canal of Mahakali Irrigation Project

Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has inspected the third main canal under construction under the Mahakali Irrigation Project. Inspecting and inspecting the third phase of the mahakali irrigation project in Kanchanpur on Monday, he said the government was serious to complete the project on time.

Minister Khadka said that the current progress of the project was commendable and directed the concerned bodies to carry out the works more effectively to achieve the target set. During the inspection, he said the Mahakali Irrigation Project is directly linked to the prosperity of the Far-West.

“The government is fully committed to providing water to the farmers’ fields and no weakness will be allowed,” said Minister Khadka. He said the government was fully committed to complete the national pride project on time. The project aims to irrigate 33,520 hectares of land in Brahmadev, Malakheti, Dodhara-Chandani and Tribhuvanbasti areas of Kanchanpur.

So far, 30 kilometers of main canal and about 12 kilometers of branch canal have been constructed and irrigation structures have been prepared in about 650 hectares of land. According to the Project Office, the overall physical progress of the project has reached 24.22 percent and 83.97 percent physical progress has been achieved in the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

Minister Khadka expressed the belief that projects like Mahakali Irrigation Project would contribute significantly to national prosperity by increasing the local production capacity. “Geographical distance, delays or technological challenges cannot stop us, we have to move ahead in a planned manner and reach the target,” he said.

Water Resources and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi, Director General of the Department of Irrigation Sanjeev Baral, high-ranking officials of the Ministry and local people’s representatives were present on the occasion.
