We are raising Nepal’s issue of climate justice in the international arena: Minister Deuba

Gandaki. Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arju Rana Deuba has said That Nepal has been strongly raising the issue of climate justice in the international arena. Speaking at a dialogue programme on ‘Nepal’s Foreign Policy, Climate Change and Concerns of Youth Youth’ organised by Nepal Tarun Dal Kaski in Pokhara today, she said Nepal should be compensated from the International Fund on Climate Damage.

Stating that she had recently raised her voice on behalf of Nepal in the International Judicial Court on the issue, Minister Deuba said Nepal was facing the negative impact of carbon emissions being carried out by the developed countries.

“We have raised the issue of giving us loss funds, building physical structures like bridges and schools damaged by floods and landslides,” she said, adding, “Nepal should also reduce carbon emission to zero and conduct a tree plantation campaign to further increase the existing 45 percent forest area.” ’

Stating that climate change poses a big challenge, he said the role of the new generation would be important in reducing its risk. According to Minister Deuba, there have been a lot of public complaints about the effects of climate change in recent times.

She said trees should be planted, plastic use should be reduced, electric vehicles and renewable energy should be increased to protect the generation coming from the effects of climate change. Minister Deuba said Nepal is geo-politically sensitive and in a geography of strategic importance.

According to him, Nepal’s independence and sovereignty have been established among the world due to stable foreign policy. “Nepal has its own foreign policy, its own identity in the global community and we have maintained it since the past, it is a matter of pride for all of us,” she said, adding, “Foreign countries have given high respect to Nepal due to our diplomacy and international relations.” ’

On the occasion, National Assembly member and outgoing central chair of Nepal Tarun Dal, Jitjung Basnet, urged the government to hold the conventions at all levels of Tarun Dal on time. He stressed on the implementation of the seven-point agreement signed between the NC and the CPN (UML) during the formation of the government. President of Nepal Tarun Dal Bidwa Na Gurung urged the tarun dal members to work for relief and rescue during the disaster.
