Kathmandu. Former Executive Officer (CEO) of Karnali Development Bank Rajendra Bir Raya has admitted to misappropriating Rs 940 million. In his statement to the court, he admitted that several people, including himself, had misappropriated the bank’s funds.
Rajendra Bir Rai, Pashupati Dayal Mishra, Niraj Bikram Shah, Dinesh Kumar Rawat, Bed Prakash Singh Thakuri and Sushil Kumar Sarki ‘Nepali’ have confessed to misappropriating Rs 940 million, Rs 150 million, Rs 150 million, Rs 150 million and Rs 20 million respectively.
Of the Rs 150 million disbursed by Karnali Development Bank to Hilsa Investment Pvt Ltd, Rai misappropriated Rs 120 million and the remaining Rs 30 million was misappropriated by Dinesh Kumar Rawat and Niraj Bikram Shah.
Similarly, former CEO Rai has admitted to misappropriating Rs 120 million out of Rs 150 million disbursed to Rapti Polymers Pvt Ltd. Dinesh Kumar Rawat and his brother-in-law Mahesh Jung Thapa misappropriated the remaining Rs 30 million, he said in his statement. Similarly, former CEO Rai himself has said that he has run a loan of Rs 8 million in the name of Bechanlal Bhujuwa.
Similarly, Dinesh Kumar Rawat and CEO Rai have misappropriated Rs 80 million and Rs 70 million respectively in the loan of Rs 150 million invested in Banke Chemicals Pvt Ltd. Similarly, the company was sold to Tilak BK and his group for Rs 150 million, out of which Dinesh Kumar Rawat paid only Rs 115 million to Karnali Bank and the remaining amount was run by Tilak BK and Dinesh Kumar Rawat.
Niraj Bikram Shah, the then CHIEF Executive Officer and Ved Prakash Singh Thakuri, also known as Mahadev, have written on the bank’s ledger mentioning more money than the deposits in other banks of Karnali Development Bank. Similarly, Niraj Bikram Shah, CEO of ACCRA, has also misappropriated Rs 120 million from the bank.
Dinesh Kumar Rawat misappropriated Rs 100 million, Ved Prakash Singh Thakuri Rs 50 million, Om Prakash Mishra Rs 50 million and Man Bahadur Chaudhary Rs 20 million.
Similarly, he has also revealed that he used to withdraw money from other bank accounts of Karnali Development and use it personally without bringing it to the bank. According to him, the system does not record the amount, takes the money withdrawn from the vault in cash and gives dummy cheques that do not have money in the account for it, and does not record the amount taken to deposit it in other bank accounts.
At that time, Ved Prakash Singh Thakuri of the accounts branch used to keep the accounts of the bank and the verification was done by niraj Bikram Shah, the then chief of the accounts department. In the statement, Rai said that Niraj Bikram Shah used to mislead nepal rastra bank, internal and external auditors by forging all the necessary documents. After the resignation of Ved Prakash Singh Thakuri, Deputy Executive Officer Niraj Bikram Shah and Accounts Section Chief Saurabh Khadka used to make kirte balance sheet. Sourabh Khadka and Niraj Bikram Shah used to work after Niraj Bikram Shah became chief executive officer.
