Jumla. Sinja rural municipality has insured around 1,545 houses in the municipality. In all the six wards of the municipality, two data collection staff have been mobilized and the house insurance has been done with the determination of the number.

Rural municipality chair Purna Prasad Dhital said 1,545 houses in Sinja have been insured under the disaster risk insurance programme approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of the Karnali State government for the current fiscal year.

The ‘Working Procedure-2081 BS’ under the annual policy and programme of the state government for the fiscal year 2081/82 BS and the annual budget was approved by the Council of Ministers on February 15.

According to the details sent by the Ministry to the local levels for the program after evaluating the houses and sending recommendations of the respective local levels by July 15, Sinja has been selected after completing the process as per the prescribed criteria.

For the program, the ministry has made arrangements to pay the insurance fee for risk assessment equivalent to a maximum of Rs 2.3 million per household. After the implementation of the insurance, the families of those damaged by earthquake, fire, flood and inundation, storm and other disasters will get compensation.

Dhital, chairperson of the rural municipality, informed that the state government will pay the insurance fee of one house for one family. Stating that the working procedure related to the operation of home insurance program has been implemented, he said that the state government has allocated Rs 47.5 million for insurance in the current fiscal year.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the state government has provided natural disaster insurance to 16,000 disaster risk houses worth Rs 11.5 billion. According to the Ministry, rs 35 million has been allocated for disaster insurance in the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS.
