Sankhuwasabha. Sankhuwasabha: A 45-metre-long concrete bridge constructed at Sisuwakhola of Silichong rural municipality in Sankhuwasabha has officially come into operation from today.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka inaugurated the bridge amid a special ceremony. The bridge, which was started in April 2079 BS by the Amber-Kunsaling Construction Company, has been completed at a cost of Rs 46.5 million.

Silichong rural municipality had forwarded the contract process by managing the budget in partnership with the federal, provincial and local levels. After the operation of the bridge, remote settlements like Sisuwa, Wala and Tamku will be directly connected to Khandbari Bazaar.

It is also expected to facilitate the movement of people from Silichong Rural Municipality-1, Sisuwa and Ward No. 2 to Tamku via Budhure and significantly improve agricultural production and service delivery.

Local residents, who have been forced to cross the canal using wooden sticks and temporary bamboo bridges for years at the local level, will now be able to travel safely.

Silichong rural municipality chair Bhupal Raj Mewahang expressed the belief that the bridge would help in strengthening the physical infrastructure of remote settlements. “Now it will be easier for the people here to commute daily, transport of agricultural produce and service delivery,” he said, adding that the bridge would contribute to the overall economic and social development of the rural areas. ’

After the construction of the bridge, not only the distance from Tamku, Wala and Sisuwa areas to Khandbari, but also the risky journey will be reduced. With the expansion of the transport network, it is expected that the agricultural products produced in the villages will be easily transported to the market and other services will be effectively delivered.

Locals have taken the construction of the bridge as a new step towards rural development. Locals say that not only the bridge, but this network has now opened the door of development in the entire area.
