Kathmandu. It is now mandatory to install an embossed number in vehicles. The decision was taken at a meeting of the thematic committee chaired by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal. The meeting held on Tuesday decided to install the embossed number compulsorily from September 15.
The meeting decided to compulsorily install embossed number plates while registering, transferring and renewing vehicles from all the state government’s transport management offices with effect from September 1, 2018, and the Department would provide technical support for its implementation and effective regulation by mobilizing traffic police in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Similarly, in the context of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Security Printing Centre and the Department of Transport Management on June 20, 2081 for the printing of the remaining driving licenses as per Section 9 of the Security Printing Act, 2081 BS, the meeting also decided to request the Centre to start printing as soon as Bhadra as soon as possible. ।
It has also been decided to request the Security Printing Centre to grant permission to resume the printing of driving licenses immediately in view of the fact that Koshi Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki State have already initiated the necessary procurement process for printing of driving licenses.
The meeting also decided to maintain uniformity in revenue for the distribution of driver’s licenses for a period of 10 years, digitize the data, take the payment process to electronic media, streamline the software system, make arrears effective, and implement it by maintaining uniformity in ride sharing. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal chaired the meeting as per Section 22 of the Federal, Provincial and Local Levels (Coordination and Inter-Relations) Act, 2077 BS.
Minister Dahal stressed the need to strengthen the implementation of federalism by implementing the provisions specified in the constitution and acts. Stressing on the need to make the implementation of federalism effective through coordination and cooperation of all the three levels, Minister Dahal said that the service of the citizens could be expedited through the implementation of the decisions of the committee.
Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry Keshav Kumar Sharma said that the meeting reviewed the decisions taken in the past and took important decisions regarding the future course of action. The meeting was attended by ministers, secretaries of the federal and provincial governments as well as public representatives of the local levels.
