Turkmenistan. Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need for enhancing global cooperation and partnership to meet the challenges posed by climate change.
Addressing a discussion session on ‘Enhancement and resilience of adaptation capacity to be adopted by landlocked developing countries in the face of disasters caused by climate change’ organized on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) here today, Prime Minister Oli said Nepal was facing adverse effects of climate change despite its negligible contribution to carbon emissions.
Calling for coordinated work to meet the challenges of sustainable development, PM Oli reminded that the Sagarmatha Sambad programme was organized with the concept of protecting from mountains to seas against climate change as the melting of Nepal’s glaciers poses human and physical risks.
He also stressed the need for foreign partners to support Nepal’s implementation of the long-term integrated adaptation strategy for climate risk reduction.
Stating that mountains have started melting due to the rise in the sea level, he urged the world community to prepare an integrated climate adaptation action plan from the mountains to the sea.
“Since The Himalayas are a natural recharge system, global joint efforts are needed to prevent melting of mountains and sea temperature from rising,” he said, adding, “We have no option but to further accelerate our global common efforts for coordinated and integrated efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.” There will be proper cooperation from Nepal in this regard. Prime Minister Oli’s formal programmes scheduled for today have been concluded during the conference. ’
