Darchula. Darchula: Four employees of Mahalaxmi Bikas Bank at Shailyashikhar Municipality-9 in Darchula district have been arrested on charges of misappropriating huge amount of money.

The arrestees have been identified as Sagar Shahi, Nirmala Saud, Dhananjay Panta and AmbaDutta Panta. Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Prakash Dahal, said that they were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the bank. According to him, the court has extended their remand for seven days and investigation is underway.

It was found that rs 28.47 million was misappropriated from the branch in connivance with the four employees. A team from mahalaxmi bikas bank’s central office had reached Gokuleshwor on Thursday after it was found that the money was misappropriated. Preliminary investigation by the bank revealed that the bank’s employees had invested the bank’s money on the banned online gambling platform 1X Bet in Nepal. The bank has suspended the four after they were found to be misappropriating money in connivance with them.

They have been found to have embezzled the vault amount in the bank’s original account. Deputy Superintendent of Police Dahal said that all the four employees of the bank have been arrested on charges of banking offenses after they were found misappropriating the bank’s money through illegal gambling. The bank is running the branch by appointing Hemraj Joshi as the branch manager. Branch Manager Joshi said that the operation of the bank has been going on continuously since today.
