Kanchanpur. Bhimdutta municipality of Kanchanpur has installed solar lights on the main roads of the municipality. The East-West Highway and Mahendranagar Market have been illuminated after the municipality installed solar lights.

Municipality spokesperson Padam Raj Awasthi said that the municipality has installed 115 street lights on the East-West Highway as part of the campaign to make the bright Bhimdutta. “In the first phase, 115 solar lights have been installed from Bhasi on the East-West Highway to Mahendranagar Bazaar,” he said. ’

Spokesperson Awasthi said that the municipality is preparing to install solar lights in all the 19 wards as per the goal of making Bhimdutta a bright city. The contract for installation of solar lights was signed at a cost of Rs 6.97 million.

In the second phase, the municipality has signed a contract worth Rs 2,282,420. According to the municipality, 30 street lights have already been installed from Gaddachauki to Bhujela. Solar lights have been installed on both sides of the highway for the convenience of the citizens, he said.

Mahendranagar Market has been modernized under the Regional Urban Development Project with the assistance of Asian Development Bank. Under the first phase of the project, highmast lights have been installed in the municipality area with the construction of modern roads at an investment of Rs 1 billion, said Pawan Lekhak, sub-engineer of the municipality.

“A total of 776 lights have been installed on the main roads of the city,” he said. He said that electricity poles and telephone wires in the street are being arranged in the back of the street to beautify the market.

Locals say that the installation of lights in the areas of the city, including the highway, has made it easier for the students going to the campus in the morning. Ganesh Bhatta, a local, said, “There was a problem in commuting when the road was dark and it has become easier after the installation of lights.” ’

He said that the street lights have made it easier for the people here to commute during the night. According to locals, the road lights in the highway area have made it easier for students and vehicles to travel and reduce the risk of accidents.
