We will implement ‘Digital Nepal Framework-2’ this year: Minister Gurung

Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that the second phase of ‘Digital Nepal Framework-2’ would be implemented this year.

In TAG_OPEN_div_30 a meeting organized by the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly today, Minister Gurung informed that the draft of Digital Nepal Framework-2 (DNF-2) has already been prepared and the Ministry will soon submit it to the Council of Ministers for approval of implementation.

The Ministry TAG_OPEN_div_28 of Communications and Information Technology has organized a meeting of the committee to discuss the activities taken by the government regarding the adoption of ‘Digital Governance’.

According to Minister Gurung, the government had prepared a framework of eight main domains and 80 initiatives in the first phase of digital ‘framework’ (DNAF 1.0) in 2076. TAG_OPEN_div_26 The second phase of the digital framework covers eight domains – agriculture, health, education, urban infrastructure, energy, tourism, finance and digital foundations.

Minister Gurung, who is also the spokesperson of the government TAG_OPEN_div_22, said that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology would implement the Digital Nepal Framework-2 in its own efforts as external assistance has not yet been received to meet the goal of the Digital Framework.

Stating that partnership should be made with the concerned ministries to implement the thematic area TAG_OPEN_div_20 s of Digital Nepal Framework-2, Minister Gurung said that a committee would be formed under the coordination of the Chief Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers for ministerial coordination.

The Ministry will soon approve TAG_OPEN_div_18 the policy draft of artificial intelligence ‘AI’ to make the Digital Nepal Framework effective, he said. Informing that his ministry was active in digitization of the Postal Service Department and construction of data centres, Minister Gurung said that the 4G network would be taken to every household and the 5G network would be started from Kathmandu and Pokhara this year.

Secretary at the Ministry TAG_OPEN_div_16 of Communications and Information Technology Radhika Aryal briefed about the progress made in policy and law making. According to him, the National Cyber Security Policy- 2080 has been issued and is under implementation, data center and ‘cloud’ service guidelines (operation and management), 2081 have been issued and implemented, and information technology emergency support group operation and management guidelines have been implemented.
