Social media should be brought under legal ambit: PM Oli

Lalitpur. Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that all social networks operating in Nepal should come under the purview of law.

Inaugurating the ‘Digital Nepal Conclave 2025’ organised by the ICT Foundation here today, Prime Minister Oli said all social networks should be registered, paid taxes and other obligations as per the prevailing laws of Nepal. Prime Minister Oli has already directed the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to bring social media under the purview of law.

“The Government of Nepal should know all kinds of transactions related to information technology in Nepal. “All the works being carried out in Nepal through social media should fulfill the obligations and pay taxes as per the laws of Nepal,” he said, adding, “The government will do whatever is to be done for the development of the information technology sector, the government is for the people, the government pays attention to the development and promotion of information technology as desired by the people, income can be earned by investing in the information technology sector at home and abroad, you should move forward with confidence.” The government is with you. ’

Stating that rapidly developing information technology is dragging people, pm Oli recalled that he was happy to know that the elderly mothers of remote villages of Rukum also wanted to see and pull photos of Facebook during their journey to Pushpalal Mid-Hill.

He said Nepal is very suitable for digital technology and green energy and stressed the need to work for development and prosperity by making full use of artificial intelligence.

Stating that more than 150,000 students have benefited from teaching see students through online mode since last year as per his announcement, he stressed the need to use it in education and development by protecting children from mobile phones.

Stating that the government had recently passed the AI policy and focused on how to transform and transform the development related to information technology, he said that some people were deliberately trying to spread frustration by not seeing the development.

He said the private sector would be encouraged as the government was clear about the use of information technology for stability, good governance and development.
